The tickets have arrived for the upcoming production of Enchanted April, produced by the Kincardine Theatre Guild and opening on Thursday, May 30.

This light-hearted, fun play follows two frustrated post-war London housewives as they decide to rent a villa in Italy to briefly escape their dreary lives. To help share the cost, they recruit two very different Englishwomen to join them. There, among the wisteria blossoms and Mediterranean sunshine, all four women bloom again, rediscovering themselves in ways they never expected.

Director Leise Peddie and her cast and crew have been hard at work in rehearsals to bring you this delightful play. The cast is as follows:

All guests have the opportunity to fill out a Scent Profile to see which Fragrance Personality they fall into (Are you a Sophisticated and Sensual Floral? Perhaps a Totally Edible Gourmand? Or one of the other three fabulous base scents?) Then you have the unique opportunity to add one, two or even three top notes to create a custom-crafted scent that embodies your tastes, desires, and personality.

It’s Fast
Before the evening closes, we will blend your bespoke perfume, bottle it, and it’s ready for you to take away with you when you go – so there is no waiting for your signature scent! And we promise you, no one in the world will smell just like you.

It’s Cost Effective
The cost of this custom-blended perfume is $160. For that, you receive 100 ml (3.4 fl oz) of your signature eau de parfum in a lovely beribboned bottle, which comes in a beautiful white box that will look great on your dressing table. You also receive a “personality card” outlining your base scent characteristics, and a “blend” card that notes the distinctive top notes you’ve selected. (Of course, at J’Adorn, we will also keep track of your personal combination in our Custom Blend Book, so you don’t need to hang onto the card to remember exactly what you had when you want to re-create it.) Depending on use, your bottle will likely last at least a year, so it’s only pennies per wearing.

It Makes Sense
Coming in for an evening of fun allows you to try different combinations, and gives you time to see how they work on you. This “try before you buy” method means no more wasted money from quickly trying a scent in a department store then realizing once you get home that it didn’t suit you. The Maison&Objet trade show never fails to amaze and inspire. We saw jaw-dropping beauty and intriguing décor ideas everywhere we went. Taking photographs is strictly verboten, but sometimes if you ask, the owners of a business will let you take one or two of the booth or display in general, but not of any specific items or designs. We agree completely, and we did get permission to take these shots so we could share them with you.

This show is so huge that you can’t possibly take it all in over five days. And when you are there, it is visual overload, so you need to focus only on your main areas of interest. For instance, there is one entire arena-sized hall devoted to new, modern designs for outdoor furnishings. While beautiful (and definitely worth an hour or two of checking out the latest trends), we didn’t allocate a lot of our time there, since that isn’t our focus at J’Adorn.

Another arena featured all cutting-edge, innovative modern furniture – again, gorgeous, but not what we generally do a lot of, so we limited our time there as well.

Instead, we spent our time mainly in four of the nine huge halls. We saw unbelievable lighting and chandeliers, furniture pieces that made you stop in your tracks (and WISH you were allowed to take pictures!) and so many décor pieces and ideas and displays, that you wish your memory was big enough to hold them all. But no sooner did you ooh and ahh over one incredible display then you were in front of the next one, impressed all over again.

When I closed my eyes at night in our little apartment (26 square metres!) on Rue Cler, all I could see was a kaleidoscope of colours, images, ideas and possibilities – all swirling around like a beautiful dance. So inspiring!

And the booths – I hesitate to even call them “booths,” since many, many of them were really more like entire homes – were absolutely phenomenal. Some of them had you wander through room after room, just like a real house. You would see how that company furnished and decorated an entire living room (or two), an entire dining room, games rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, dens: you name it. They were all so distinctive, and so beautifully done. It was like strolling through the pages of some of the world’s finest decorating magazines, except here, you could actually order and own anything you saw that you liked. (That is, if you have that kind of bank book!).

So we spent many happy, footsore days taking it all in, gathering fresh ideas and inspiration for our little boutique in Kincardine. You can’t actually buy things to take home from the show, but you can place orders, and I’m happy to report that we have sourced some beautiful items that will be arriving soon from Europe. We can’t wait to show them to you!
